What is the Next Chapter Book Club?
Teens and young adults age 16 and up with intellectual and developmental disabilities meet to read together, engage in conversation, explore new topics, and build relationships in a restaurant, cafe, community center, or other public place.
How does it work?
Four to eight members and two or more volunteer club meeting facilitators meet weekly for one hour to read and discuss a book of their choosing. Facilitators will make book suggestions, but club members will make final decisions.
Who can become a member?
Anyone age 16 and over can participate, no matter their reading or ability level.
Who leads the book clubs?
Trained volunteers facilitate each club meeting. They include students, parents, retirees, and other dedicated community members.
Do you have to read before the club meets?
You are welcomed to read ahead, but it is not required. The group will read aloud and discuss together at each meeting.
Why join the Next Chapter Book Club?
It’s a great opportunity to make friends, enjoy books and engage in conversation while making friends on a regular basis!
